District 7610 News and Events

Rotary International News and Events
December is Disease Prevention and Treatment Month.  Disease does not prevent itself. Rotarians educate and equip communities to stop the spread of life-threatening diseases. Rotary members have hundreds of health projects underway around the world at any given time.

For example, The Rotary Foundation is changing the world by providing grants for projects and activities around the globe and in your own backyard. $65 Million in grants was given by Rotary to fight disease. Ninety-nine percent reduction in polio cases since our program commenced in 1985.  Rotarians are making a difference throughout the world.

President's Message
Kenneth Courter
Dear Rotary Club of Ashburn:
Looking back over the past few months we have helped many less fortunate. Rotary is truly where dreams come true.

For example, the children at Eagle Ridge Middle School asked for our help.  They wanted to give a gift of computers to students in Lee County, VA. Our club respond with 42 laptops.

The Rotary Clubs in Loudoun County asked us to team up and send a donation to the Virgin Islands.  Rotary responded, once again, with a $10,000 donation with matching and foundation funds.

Loudoun County Public Schools received 1,200 backpacks with school supplies. This was a combination of the generosity of nearly every member.

We also had a fun Brewer's Brunch to support the works at Loudoun Hunger Relief. A Pints & Present gift wrap is scheduled for the 17th & 23rd.

We are bell ringing for the Salvation Army on the 16th at two area Giants.  Be sure to fill the red kettle for those in need.

The road clean up brought a dozen Rotarians and Interact members to volunteer and spruce up Ashburn.

The Toy Drive helped 150 children in Loudoun. Wegmans made a significant contribution as did St. David's Church, the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors and the twenty Rotarians who placed toy collection boxes at their businesses or homes. This hands-on project enlisted half the club to donate and volunteer this past weekend, especially volunteering to hand out toys.

The Holiday Party is at Blackfinn.  Don't forget the White Elephant gift of $20. Rumor has it that Santa wants to say thank you to our club for the generosity and service we have accomplished in 2017.

Happy Holidays,
Ken, President, Rotary Club of Ashburn, VA

The Rotary Foundation Receives $189,040 on Giving Tuesday
Thank you for beginning the holiday season by giving — you are already building a brighter, more peaceful future. Together on giving Tuesday, we raised $189,040!
For more than 100 years, The Rotary Foundation has been supporting Rotarians' work to create sustainable solutions to our world's most pressing needs. But there is still much to do, and we need your help.  Rotary gives in countless ways, focusing our service efforts in six areas: promoting peace, fighting disease, providing clean water, saving mothers and children, supporting education, and growing local economies. We're also working hard to end polio once and for all.  Give the gift of Rotary today and be a part of the positive change Rotarians are making in your community and around the world. Every gift makes a difference.
The Four-Way Test

The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings:

Of the things we think, say or do

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
