The Rotary Club of Ashburn has selected Gary M. Clemens as its Rotary District 7610 Citizen of the Year Award nominee.  As Ashburn Rotary's nominee, Mr. Clemens will receive a District Governor Citation and will be recognized at the Loudoun County Chamber of Commerce Business Showcase Breakfast on November 8, 2012 at Belmont Country Club. The nominee chosen, among the 52 district clubs, will be invited to the District Foundation Awards banquet in November 2012 and will receive a Paul Harris Fellow Recognition, one of Rotary's most prestigious recognition awards.

The Citizen of the Year award recognizes unusually dedicated community leaders who have stood out among the many unsung residents and heroes who have worked so hard serving our youth, our schools, public safety, land use, transportation, the environment and more.

Mr. Clemens has served as the Circuit Court Clerk of Loudoun County since 2000 and is a resident of Ashburn, VA. He has actively served the county's youth volunteering as a coach for various sports, serving on the Advisory Commission for Youth, teaching Sunday School classes, and educating local high school students about volunteering, public service and ethics.  Mr. Clemens has also played a leadership role in a number of organizations including the United Way, Loudoun Destination Foundation, the Patriot Project, and Broad Run Athletic Booster Club.  In 2010, he was elected president of the Virginia Association of Local Elected Officials and continues to serve as Public Relations Chair for the association.

A former Rotarian, Mr. Clemens has been a guest speaker at Ashburn Rotary on numerous occasions. The breadth and depth of his commitment to the community he serves in so many ways along with his personal grace and wit is always welcome.
