District 7610 News

Rotary Leadership Institute will be held Saturday, March 17 in Fairfax, VA.

RLI is a series of three one day discussion seminars for regular Rotarians to enhance their Rotary experience by sharing their questions or knowledge with other Rotarians from other clubs and districts. While the focus of the events are key topics in Leadership, Service, and Membership, most Rotarians agree that the most valuable aspect is building better friendships with other participants and taking back new ideas for their own club.

The District 7610 RLI Chair is Steve Radich. You can contact him with any questions regarding RLI at email, or see the D7610

President's Message
Kenneth Courter

Good Day,

Very busy weekend for the club with the car sear safety check in conjunction with It Takes A Village Baby.

Don’t forget to signup with friends for the Corn Hole Tournament at Blackfinn.  This is the Shamrock and Roll event to celebrate St. Patrick’s Day. Nice to have a patron saint that encourages fun.  Be sure to wear green on the 17th.

After you recuperate please get ready for the Blood Drive at the Health & Wellness Expo on April 28th at the Sterling Community Center. There are 100 participating health care providers and professional offering service to the community.  The Y will be on hand with their National Day of Fitness and fun activities like a dunk tank.  Trying to get Farmer Markets to join us that day between 10 am and 2 pm. No charge to attend.

The week ending May 6th we have the Ashburn Cares Food Drive to benefit the three area Interact Clubs and Loudoun Hunger Relief.

Lots of hands on activities to help those in our community in need.  Over the past few months we have supported a Toy Drive, rung bells with the Salvation Army, supplied school supplies to 1,200 school children, collected funds to dig water wells in Africa and more.  You each are blessed with a strong spirit of helping.

Thank You, Ken

Ken Courter, President, Rotary Club of Ashburn, VA

Clean Water Project
The Rotary Club of Ashburn is raising funds to bring clean water to Ghana in West Africa.
The boreholes in Zuarungu Torson and Wakii in the Bolgatanga Municipal district is estimated to serve a combined 850 people. Rotary global grant 17-57675 will provide communities with clean water and sanitation with improved hygiene in the Bolgatanga area of the Upper East Region in Ghana.

Our goal is to provide communities with twenty-three boreholes (deep wells), three small town water systems and two hundred and seventy-five new Microflush toilets with hand washing sinks. The new Microflush toilets will be provided to schools and homes to increase awareness and use of the new sanitation technology. We also want to develop training videos and materials to teach new Microflush toilet makers. The project budget is $200,000. The result of not having access to clean drinking water can caused widespread disease resulting in the inability for those affected to work or support themselves. The project is anticipated to begin in summer 2018 through finish in 2019.
The Four-Way Test

The Four-Way Test is a nonpartisan and nonsectarian ethical guide for Rotarians to use for their personal and professional relationships. The test has been translated into more than 100 languages, and Rotarians recite it at club meetings:

Of the things we think, say or do

  1. Is it the TRUTH?
  2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
  4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?
